Lawyers have only one job, to defend their clients. But in a lawyer’s perspective, they all have different jobs depending on their specialization and expertise.

For lawyers who focus on criminal and civil law including private individuals, they are known as private lawyers. On a civil law, private lawyers file private litigations or law suits. They also handle trusts, wills, mortgages, contracts, leases, and other documents. On criminal cases, lawyers involve getting in the court and defending their clients, as well as following their client’s criminal case. For some private lawyers, they prefer to handle public cases with larger scope and focus on social importance.

Corporate lawyers’ services are merely for corporations. They handle issues of their clients and give advice on legal issues involving the activities of their business. A corporate lawyer’s duty involves issues concerning contracts to other companies, rules and regulations of the government, patents, and more.

An intellectual property lawyer is there to protect the claims of his client on copyrights, product designs, computer programs and contracts involving creative work.

Patent lawyers do a lot of research. They serve their clients by giving advice on patent laws. They make sure that a patent is inventive, uses industrial applications, and totally new.

Insurance lawyers provide their services to insurance companies. They give advices on the legalities of insurance transactions, as well as their writing policies. They also protect their clients from actions that have no warrants by representing their companies in court.

Environmental lawyers can cater their services to companies, interest groups, and pressure groups that devote themselves in caring for the environment. Their activities may involve construction, waste management or geological, and others. Environmental lawyers help their clients in acquiring their licenses and approval of their activities as well as defending them against authorities who claim environmental breaches.

The governmental lawyers act as defenders and prosecutors. They act in behalf of the state. Their duties may include drafting and interpreting laws in behalf of the government.

Trial lawyers compared to other lawyers spend more time in court. They spend most of their time doing researches, talking to witnesses and clients, as well as preparing for a trial in court.

Other lawyers specialize on international law, bankruptcy; while some of them work for disadvantaged people, law schools, non academic environments, and non profit organizations.
